When and where is the Conference being held?

IMA’s Student Leadership Conference will be held November 9-11, 2017 at Houston Marriott Marquis in Houston, Texas. The hotel is located at 1777 Walker St, Houston, TX 77010. The direct phone number is (713) 654-1777.

What is the format of the Conference?

The Conference begins on Thursday, November 9, with registration, networking reception, and an opportunity to visit the exhibit hall from 4:30 p.m. -7 p.m. There are also optional industry tours on Thursday afternoon prior to the start of the event (additional fees apply) and an optional leadership roundtable on Thursday evening.

Friday will feature two general sessions and three sets of concurrent sessions. A networking reception will be held at the end of the day. The reception and related activities are included as part of your Conference registration fee.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend two of three available workshops on Saturday as well as the closing general session. There will also be a special faculty workshop held on Saturday morning. The Conference sessions will end at the conclusion of the general session at 12 p.m. Lunch will be available as grab-and-go or sit-and-chat, depending on attendee travel schedules.

Is the Thursday night registration and reception mandatory?

The Thursday night reception is optional, but it is an excellent time to visit our exhibitors, receive your registration information, and network with fellow students, faculty members, and Conference speakers.

What is the dress code for the Conference?

Attire for Conference sessions and networking events is business casual, defined by IMA as slacks, polo shirts, sweaters, blazers, blouses, and comfortable shoes.

Is there an SLC conference app?

Yes, the app will be available to download in October. It will feature the Conference program, speaker bios, speaker evaluations, and so much more. Please be sure to download it before you arrive at the Conference to take full advantage of it.

* By remitting the student nonmember price for this event, registration includes one year of IMA student membership. Please note: Eligibility for a one-year student membership is ONLY available at the time of your Conference registration submission.

The Conference registration fee includes two breakfasts, two lunches, and two receptions (hors d'oeuvres on Thursday evening and a buffet dinner on Friday evening).

What are the cut-off dates for pre-registration?

Registration begins on September 5 (online or via mail or fax). Registration rates increase as of October 21 at 12:01 a.m.

Please note: Mailed and/or faxed registration forms must be postmarked before the cut-off date to receive the early registration rates.

How do I register?

Those wishing to attend the Conference can register online beginning on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

Mail and Fax Registration: A downloadable PDF version will be available beginning on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

What is the cancellation policy?

To receive a full refund, requests for cancellations must be submitted in writing and received by IMA prior to October 20, 2017. Cancellation requests may also be e-mailed to LeighAnn Tobia at ltobia@imanet.org or faxed to (201) 474-1600. Cancellations received between October 21 and November 1 will be refunded, less a $25 processing fee. No refunds will be available for cancellations after November 2, or for no-shows. IMA is not responsible for delayed mail or incorrectly addressed correspondence. Refunds will be issued within 60 days after the Conference.

IMA is only responsible for processing the Conference registration. If for any reason you must cancel your Conference registration, please remember to cancel your hotel accommodations directly through the Houston Marriott Marquis.

IMA reserves the right to cancel the IMA Student Leadership Conference if conditions warrant. In the event of such a cancellation, registration fees will be refunded. IMA is not responsible for any travel or lodging expenses or out-of-pocket costs incurred.

IMA reserves the right to cancel sessions if minimum registration numbers are not met. Attendees will have the option to attend other sessions in the same time period.

Only individuals registered and badged may attend Conference events. Guest must register in order to attend sessions and Conference meals.

Are there any airline discounts?

IMA has partnered with United Airlines to provide our attendees with a 2%-10% discount for IMA’s Student Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas. IMA has partnered with Delta Airlines to provide our attendees with a 2%-10% discount for IMA’s Student Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas. Is there a discounted hotel rate available for Conference attendees?

Hotel reservations will be taken by the Marriott Marquis Houston. A block of rooms is available at a special IMA rate of $169 per night, single/double/triple/quad occupancy, plus tax. Be sure to mention that you are with IMA or Institute of Management Accountants. This rate will be in effect while rooms are available or until the cut-off date of October 17, 2017. Reservations after October 17, 2017, or after the IMA block sells out may be subject to the higher rate. There is no guarantee that rooms will be available until October 17, 2017. What are the transportation options from the airport to the hotel?

There are two airports that serve the Houston area – please see information on both below:

William P. Hobby Airport (HOU)

  • Taxi fare from the William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) airport to the hotel is approximately $35; the ride is about 20 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Roundtrip shared shuttle service from the airport to the hotel is available for $37.80, and $18.90 for one way from SuperShuttle. For a private Non-Stop Super Shuttle for 1-3 passengers, the cost is $106 for a round trip, and $53 for a one way. Attendees are required to make a reservation in advance.
